Parent involvement is an essential component of the
Castro school community. All parents are expected to be actively
involved in their student’s education. There are many ways to do so.
Parents as First Teachers
We offer numerous parent education
opportunities throughout the year to give you insights and skills to
support your child’s education (free childcare is provided for all
school meetings).
Times have changed. Standards are rigorous. Behind every successful
student there is a parent who is working at home. Reading to and with
your child, answering your child’s questions, practicing math facts are
just a few. Teachers cannot do it without you, the parents!
Volunteering at the School
Parents may volunteer
in the classroom, library or computer lab, garden, serve as reading and
math tutors, making copies, laminating projects, shelving books and
provide yard supervision.
Every teacher could use a classroom helper to monitor students,
provide individual and small group support, or simply make copies or
staple student books. If you are interested in volunteering, please stop by the front office.
Site Council and ELAC
Parents who are interested in giving feedback and helping set school policy are encouraged to join the school Site Council and/or ELAC (for parents of English Language Learners).
